When interior designer Dayna Lonquist set out to furnish her new home, she found what she was looking for at Muse & Merchant, where Buyer & Creative Director Anita Tiernan has spent years curating a collection of pieces that feel as personal as they do polished.
From that collection, Dayna chose pieces that would breathe life into each room, like the Bingo sectional, a top seller at Muse & Merchant, settled into the main living area. The chaise flips left or right to fit almost any layout, and a hidden storage ottoman keeps blankets out of sight, all wrapped in a cozy fabric with narrow arms that keep the silhouette sleek.
“It worked perfectly for this space at Dayna’s penthouse,” Anita reflects. The sectional now sits alongside a hand-painted piece the team has nicknamed Bunny with a Pearl Earring, a playful touch that gives the room its own personality.
Elsewhere in the living room, a custom Canadian-made Stylus sectional in rich green velvet brings a different register of luxury altogether. “Modern luxury, built for the way you live,” is how Anita sums up the appeal, describing a piece designed in the perfect configuration for the space and built right in BC by a family-owned company. Muse & Merchant carries more than twenty Stylus frame options and upward of two hundred fabrics, with a typical lead time of six to eight weeks.
Dayna shares, “each selection was chosen to create the sophisticated New York chic feeling I envisioned.” In the kitchen, that sensibility carries through in the Jonny counter stools, finished in top-grain distressed black leather with wood legs updated to a black finish to complement the penthouse’s modern interior architecture. The stools strike a perfect balance between comfort and sophistication, and they pair seamlessly with the home’s matching dining chairs, a small detail that ties the two rooms together.
The guest bedroom took a warmer, more playful approach. Muse & Merchant offers accent chairs ranging from compact reads to statement lounges, and among them, Dayna was drawn to the Elodie chair, dressed in a textured mustard fabric that fits perfectly into the room, part of what Dayna describes as “a home that feels elevated, luxurious, layered, and completely reflective of our lifestyle.” Accent chairs are perfect for layering personality into a room without overwhelming it.
Finally, the Sicily leather armchairs bring a rich, grounded warmth to the living room, crafted by an Italian factory known for its quality, where the longer wait is worth it. “The leather has that unmistakable feel and instantly elevates the space as soon as you walk in,” Anita adds.
Dayna reflects on the process of bringing it all together. “It is moody, eclectic and so elevated,” she says of Muse & Merchant. “The store is unlike anything else in BC.” From the green velvet sectional to the cognac leather chairs imported from Italy, every piece was chosen to feel as beautiful in ten years as it does today, a home built not around trends but around the pieces she loved the moment she saw them.
